Privacy Policy
Last updated: April 26, 2026
MD Viewer ("we", "us", or "the site") is a free, browser-based Markdown viewer and editor available at mdview.co. We are committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what data we collect and how it is used.
1. Data We Collect
We do not collect personal information. MD Viewer does not require an account, login, or registration of any kind. We do not ask for your name, email address, or any other personally identifiable information. If you use the share feature, your IP address is used transiently for rate limiting (not stored beyond a 60-second window).
2. Content You Create
All Markdown content you type or paste into the editor is processed entirely in your browser by default. We cannot see, access, or store anything you write in the editor.
3. Document Sharing
If you choose to use the Share feature, your document's Markdown content is transmitted to and stored on our cloud infrastructure. Specifically:
- The Markdown content you share is stored with a randomly generated ID for up to 90 days, after which it is automatically deleted.
- Shared documents are publicly accessible to anyone who has the unique link (e.g.,
mdview.co/s/xxxxxxxx). - Shared documents are limited to 500 KB per document.
- No personal information is attached to shared documents — they are anonymous.
- We cannot un-share or edit a document once it has been shared. Documents expire automatically after 90 days.
4. Local Storage
We use your browser's localStorage to save your theme preference (dark or light mode). This data stays on your device and is never sent to any server. You can clear it at any time through your browser settings.
5. Cookies & Advertising
MD Viewer uses Google AdSense to display advertisements. Google may use cookies and similar technologies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites. Specifically:
- Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads based on your browsing activity.
- You may opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings.
- You may also opt out of third-party vendor cookies by visiting aboutads.info.
We do not set any first-party tracking cookies ourselves.
6. Analytics
We may use privacy-respecting analytics to understand aggregate traffic patterns (e.g., page views, popular features). If analytics are enabled, no personally identifiable information is collected.
7. Third-Party Services
MD Viewer loads external resources to provide its features, including:
- Font hosting services — to render typography used in the interface
- Content delivery networks — to load supplementary assets such as syntax definitions
- Advertising services — to serve advertisements (see Section 5)
- Cloud hosting services — to power the document sharing feature
Each of these third-party services has its own privacy policy governing how they handle requests from your browser.
8. Children's Privacy
MD Viewer is a general-purpose tool and is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect any personal information from children.
9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated revision date.
